Do I need to know how to play mahjong before coming?

Not at all! Most of our students are complete beginners. MAHJ101 starts from scratch: we'll teach you everything from sorting the tiles to playing your first hand. No experience needed.

What version of mahjong do you teach in Las Vegas?

We teach American Mahjong, played with the National Mah Jongg League (NMJL) card. This is the most popular version in the US and the one you'll find at most local games.

What do I need to bring to a mahjong lesson?

Just yourself! We provide the tiles, racks, and everything else you need. If you have your own NMJL card, feel free to bring it; otherwise we'll have extras.

Can I come to a mahjong event alone?

You're welcome to come solo! Open play events are a great way to meet fellow players. For private lessons, we can pair you with other students if you don't have a full group.

How long does it take to learn mahjong?

Most people feel comfortable playing after just one 2-3 hour lesson. You won't be an expert overnight, but you'll know enough to sit down and play, and that's when the real fun starts.

Where do you hold mahjong classes and events in Las Vegas?

We host at restaurants, community spaces, and private venues across the Las Vegas Valley, from Summerlin to Henderson. We also offer private lessons at your home or preferred location.

Can you host a private mahjong event or party?

Red Rock Canyon

A 13-mile scenic loop through one of the most dramatic desert landscapes in the West. Hiking trails for every fitness level. 20 minutes from the Strip. Free to drive through, $15 timed entry fee for hiking.

Valley of Fire State Park

Bright red Aztec sandstone formations that look like a different planet. Petroglyphs, arches, and wide open desert. About an hour from Las Vegas -- worth the drive.

Lake Mead & Hoover Dam

Hoover Dam tours run daily and are genuinely impressive. Lake Mead has kayaking and paddleboarding. Both are under 40 minutes from the Strip.

Wetlands Park

A 2,900-acre nature preserve in Henderson with hiking, biking, and bird watching. Free. Feels nothing like Las Vegas.

Eat Your Way Down Fremont Street

The Downtown Container Park, Fremont East District, and surrounding blocks have some of the best local restaurants in Nevada. Hugo's Cellar, Carson Kitchen, PublicUs -- none of them are in a casino.

Las Vegas Farmers Markets

The Summerlin Farmers Market runs Saturday mornings with local produce, vendors, and food trucks. The Downtown 3rd market runs Thursday evenings year-round.

Distillery Tours

Nevada Copper (Henderson) and Bently Heritage (Minden, day trip) both offer tasting tours. Closer in, several craft cocktail bars do class-style cocktail experiences.

Cirque du Soleil or Vegas Shows

Three Cirque shows run permanently in Las Vegas. There are also dozens of residencies, comedy shows, and productions that have nothing to do with a casino floor.
